・はまおたプロジェクトとは
What is the HamaOta project?

The aim of the HamaOta project is to form networks and activate and visualize Otaku culture in Yokohama by inter-connecting Otaku shops, Otaku circles, companies, and universities.

Additionally, by visualizing Otaku culture, we believe that we can promote the Yokohama area from a new and unconventional perspective and create new projects and business.

・はまおたプロジェクトの活動
Activities of HamaOta project

The project will provide opportunities for Otaku communities to be able to express themselves and connect with each other, by having Otaku music live concerts and anime-related events until the end of next march.

We are developing this project across media including Otaku events, shops, restaurants and cafés, circles, the free listings magazine Yokohama Otaku Guide, and various websites.

・はまおたプロジェクトの背景
Background of the HamaOta project

Otaku and subculture activities are thriving in Yokohama, but it is not so widely known. There are many Otaku shops, cafés and bars, as well as a major game production company and several communities which set up and run cosplay events.
TVK broadcasts many anime and has also hosted the “TVK Anime Festival,” the first anime-related event produced by a single local TV station in the Kanto area. Since there are many anime and games set in Yokohama City and Kanagawa Prefecture, the area has been attracting attention as “Seichi (the sacred place)”.
Because of the limited size of the east side of Yokohama station area, many shops are scattered on the second or third floors of multiuse buildings. Thus the current Yokohama Otaku culture is not as well known and easily visible as Otaku street in Akihabara.
Thus, Mr. Yusuke Hirasawa, owner of HoneyHoney, a Maid café in Yokohama, created a free publication, “Yokohama Otaku Guide”.
